Default "Trump's EPA Head Said Climate Change Is Not a Top Threat It's 50 to 75 Years Out"

"Wheeler was nominated by President Donald Trump and was confirmed last month. He acknowledges human behavior “certainly contributes to” climate change, and says the U.S. is working to reduce carbon dioxide emissions."

"Andrew Wheeler told CBS News in an interview airing Wednesday that climate change is “an important issue,” but most of the threats it poses are “50 to 75 years out” and it’s “unreasonable” for the 2020 Democratic candidates to focus so much on it."

    http://time.com/5554996/epa-chief-cl...22%3a%22%22%7d

So, what that means is Trump's appointee is afraid to take action on what he acknowledges as a real threat because of repercussion from the White House, he remembers Sessions, or, he just don't give a damn given he and Trump will most likely have passed in that time and it doesn't effect the world they live in now.

Yet, probably the real truth, he just ain't all that bright, typical Trump appointee.

What do you think, scared, self centered, or just plain dumb?

Most people 30 and above think Climate Change is 50 to 75 years out ...

But that isn't the POINT ...

    It's progress.

A real admission that humans are contributing to global warming and we need to work on reducing on GHG emissions.

    That is real progress.

It wasn't that many years ago when conservatives on this board - almost to a man - hollered that there was no global warming, and that a vast international conspiracy of scientists were faking the data. It was all a hoax! Some of the dunces who believed that are still here.

We have reached the point were all sentient, and sensible higher life forms are acknowledging that human emissions of heat trapping greenhouse gases contribute to global warming. And it is an environmental problem we need to address.

Anyone still denying it is basically a laughing stock at this point.

Quite assuredly it will still "be progress" thirty years down the road, and then it will be "Obama's fault" cause the demogogue of the day will tell them so

    Baby steps.

I am not naïve, and am fully aware of the political motivation to drill, produce, and burn the trillions of remaining barrels of oil in the ground. Our corporate overlords are not going to walk about from those trillions of dollars in profit without a fight to the death.

The larger picture here is that it has become untenable to be a climate denier. It is established scientific fact that human emissions of heat trapping greenhouse gases are detrimentally impacting the global environment - and even Trump's own EPA administrator admits this.

That is real progress. Because having been into this issue for three decades, I can tell you that for many long years, the Climate Deniers denied that global warming was even happening at all, and/or that a conspiracy of scientists were faking the data to dupe the public and the governments of the world.

The progress being made here is that anyone still clinging to Climate Denial is a laughing stock who even Trump's EPA administrator does not agree with.

Wheeler was a lobbyist for energy companies. He was a lobbyist for Murray coal fighting against EPA regulations during Obama. We know what Murray things of laws and regulations. He will spend miners health and lives for profits. Wheeler does not believe in Greenhouse Gas effects. He does not believe in climate change, He worked closely with Inhofe.
In short, exactly what you would expect Trump to make the head of EPA. Kill the agency from the inside.

Just as long as I can get hi-test for my gas guzzling sports car. That, and it doesn't rain on weekends this summer!
Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.

So, AOC claims we only have 12 years and Trump’s guy says we have a generation or so before we need to worry about climate change.

I’ll go out on a limb and say no one can predict the future lol.

Even if the prophets are right the climate cake is already baked and even the most draconian measures won’t change anything appreciably. And no one is really serious about instituting them anyway. Well, they might think they’re serious until they don’t have heat in the winter when the government starts to ration power.

The climate prophets may be right. But there’s at least an equal chance they are simply wrong—and it would hardly be the first time a scientific hypothesis gets discarded years after it was in vogue.
Coup has started. First of many steps. Impeachment will follow ultimately~WB attorney Mark Zaid, January 2017

Since you emit CO2 when you exhale, the best thing you can do for the problem you say exists is to voluntarily stop breathing NOW.

You are putting words in his mouth.

He said we need to be working on reducing greenhouse emissions NOW because humans are contributing to climate change.

He did not say we should wait for decades to do anything.
His position is that since the most severe of the impacts won't be felt for decades, it should not be our number one environmental priority in the year 2019.

I don't agree with all that, but this is at least showing me that Climate Denial is untenable at this point. Climate Denial is laughable, unsupportable, and fringe. And anyone promoting climate denial is a laughing stock.

Climate Deniers spent the last three decades denying global warming was happening, guessing that is was all due to natural causes, and/or claiming that a global conspiracy of scientists were faking the data.

Climate deniers, over and over again, have been wrong on every single count. Every single one. Even the EPA administrator appointed by your orange tinted hero fully admits that humans are contributing to climate change and we need to be working now to reduce human emissions of heat-trapping GHGs.

I don't think the EPA head said the world is going to actually end in a generation. AOC said the world will END in 12 years.
