Spot on. We have to hold out hope for the rational minds in the Republican Party to hang in there. Trump won't be forever. Later, they can pick up the pieces and get back to traditional left/right disagreements. All this nastiness and polarization is paralyzing meaningful progress. I say this as a liberal because I understand that we need both a fine upstanding left and a fine upstanding right to produce fine upstanding policy. Diversity of political view is our strength. It is the fuel for creative brainstorming to make America better. We can and should be fellow Americans - who disagree on the best policy, ever keeping one another in check.

You can't make this stuff up.

Kellyanne Conway on Wednesday defended President Donald Trump’s attacks on her husband George Conway saying he’s “a counterpuncher” and asserting that the president is free to respond when he’s accused of having a mental illness.

“He left it alone for months out of respect for me,” Conway, a senior Trump aide, told POLITICO in a brief telephone interview. “But you think he shouldn’t respond when somebody, a non-medical professional accuses him of having a mental disorder? You think he should just take that sitting down?”

“Don't play psychiatrist any more than George should be,” she added. “You're not a psychiatrist and he's not, respectfully.”
