Have you read that article already ffs? I would suggest that an accident like that couldn't happen on a US or European operated route. Most of the problem was down to pilot inexperience, the first officer on the Ethiopian plane had only 200 hours under his belt!!

I just watched Sully for the first time, so, I'm feeling particularly pro-Sullenberger at the moment.

That being said, the plane that crash-landed into SF was clearly pilot error (Capt Sum Ting Wong at the helm), as he had to override numerous levels of what Boeing assumed were idiot-proof safety features. They still tried to pin that on Boeing, and, I believe they succeeded in that slander.

Edit: Okay, it looks like the NTSB did blame the flight crew of Asiana 214, but, they also criticized Boeing's documentation of complex flight control systems, as well as the airline's pilot training program.

He also heavily criticised Ethiopian Airlines for the first officer having only 200 hours flying time, he said it should be at least 1500 hours.

This is what you get with Trump. You get people who are in the industry overseeing the agencies that regulate them. The boss worked for Boeing for 3 decades and for some reason, favored Boeing. Can you think of a reason he was pro Boeing? I Can. Can you see how corrupting and controlling the regulators from the inside is dangerous and wrong.? This is what Trump gives us in every regulating agency.
No, not pilot error. The plane had a problem that made it tough for experienced pilots. Some pilots bitched about it.. Some say they had to shut down the auto pilot to get control back. They complained, but to a Trumpy, that is elevator music. Something to be ignored .https://www.aviationcv.com/aviation-...g-737max-crash

Yep, ... many foreign gov'ts failed to ensure their pilots were properly trained to fly the Max.

I don't believe that Boeing are entirely innocent either, they should have done more to explain the workings of the anti-stall equipment. However every competent pilot ought to have known how to disable a malfunctioning piece of equipment, by throwing the circuit breaker.

Another question, why didn't Lion Air report that an off-duty pilot had done exactly that, on the stricken aircraft, the previous day?

It's not Boeing's responsibly to ensure foreign pilots are properly trained. However, the plane's design should have been more idiot-proofed. And calling it the 738, instead, could have better alerted pilots to the different flying characteristics of the Max.

Trump's grounding of the planes in the U.S., ... does force Boeing to innovate a more idiot proof solution to the stall problem. It was a very wise move for Trump to step in ... and save Boeing from itself, as Boeing's continued survival is a national security issue.

In the first year of operation, 737 Max planes carried 6.5 million passengers for more than 118,000 hours, with what Boeing said was the highest schedule reliability, over 99.4%, of any new airplane until the Lion Air crash.
