This is what millennials know and do. They aren’t growing up saying I want to work in a factory and join a union.

    This board is Boomer dominated so we get a lot more threads and topics like this. On boards that dominated by millennials you don’t here this rhetoric
    I get unions are passe,and I appreciate the info milenials want stock options as they are a mobile work force and will work many jobs, such as the hook ups you mentioned.

    But I'm talking about the US economy as a whole - and industrial jobs are NOT passe- not just Defense industries but infrastructure,manufacturing plant equipment , giant turbines ,tunnels, aircraft etc

    cawacko;
    Millennials work today in the gig economy and they want stock options, not a union card.
    Yes, unfortunately- and I really don't know how that happened.

    We went from an industrial economy to the knowledge economy. I don't know how old you are but I'm guessing not a millennial. This change to the information age hasn't been happening in the dark.

    I'm not talking spanners versus calculators- I'm wondering how the unions lost the hearts of the majority.

    I'm no union expert but Taft-Hartley in '47 was a big one that supposedly hurt unions and the other thing I've read about is the inability to unionize the South. Then as you get into the '70's and '80 and the advance of globalization and technology they did not work in the unions favor.

    I hope that there's a resurgence. Governments everywhere display the worst of human nature .

    Looking at you- maybe unions are getting picky.

    The decades old incestuous relationship of Democrats and unions has been broken.

    Good.

    Pretty simple. They caused labor cost to be overinflated beyond the ability of the market to pay. Foreign markets provided better value and consumers chose the better value. Thanks, union dipshits. Hope you are happy now.
