Gavin Newsom is a prime example of this. Mayor of San Francisco for eight years. Once his term was up he and has family left diverse SF for lily white Kentfield in lily white Marin County. Now that he's Governor his family is not living in the Governor's mansion in diverse Sacramento but an $8m gated compound in a lily white suburb.

Again, he's making decisions which he feels is best for his family. Can't fault a guy for that. Except that he loves to engage in social justice rhetoric and fights against school choice. So he's a perfect example of what the article in the OP is taking about.

One variable that was left out was gentrification. Gentrification is economic not race based but invariably race gets brought into it. Gentrification can and does bring mixing of races although they tend to be younger people and empty nesters not families that are the gentrifiers.
