I don't support the banning of assault type weapons but if society isn't going to give a shit who buys one that ban will be inevitable. I used to own a farm and had plenty of uses for one other than killing people. It's asinine to take them away because we are too fucking stupid to control who owns one.

It won't prevent the criminal from getting one but it sure will make it harder. Now make it illegal for anyone but a licensed dealer to sell one and it will be harder still. now make it a felony to sell one without using a licensed dealer and it will be harder still. Now when you catch that criminal double his sentence if he does not disclose where he got the gun and it will be harder still for him to get his hands on one.

These are all measures that take time, gun violence isn't going away overnight but give it 20 yrs and we will have a significant drop all while still allowing the law abiding citizen to own a gun. The right are the assholes that will cause that law abiding citizen to lose his gun. Sooner or later society will be fed up with daily massacres and we risk losing all of them.

To say it will make it harder for criminals to get one is absolutely wrong. That assumes that criminals have been or will suddenly start following the laws. Since the laws in place weren't a concern for criminals when they committed a crime, new laws won't be a concern either.

Those on the right aren't the one pushing to ban guns that scare those of you that get your feelings hurt when seeing something you don't like. Go cry in corner, son.

handguns are passed around like candy among criminals and 25-50 bucks will get you one. if you were selling or giving a handgun to a criminal and knew you could go to prison for doing so would you still sell them for $50. If you were found guilty of a crime using one and the judge said 10 yrs prison or 5 if you can prove where you got that gun, would you tell him?
