But how many JPP lefties think this is a good idea? And what’s the justification for it?

Winning the next election doesn’t count.
Do not have an opinion either way - think it is worth at least considering.

It is also very telling that Republicans are always worried about more people voting, and the Republican default position is that the more people vote, the more conservatives lose.

A very clear indication that Republicans fully realize they are a minority party, and are only able to cling to power by voter suppression, electoral college, gerrymandering, and making it as much of a hassle as possible to vote. Here is a suggestion: why not come up with ideas, visions, and policies that more people will buy into?

The bottom line is that there were 16 and 17 year old kids who felt on a visceral level that invading Iraq was a dumb ass idea -- meanwhile there were college educated, older Republicans on this board who thought invading Iraq was a great idea.

Life experience is not a leading indicator of making good choices at the presidential level. And statistical evidence has always shown a prevailing tendency of the wisdom of the crowd, even if the crowd has non-experts, or 16 year olds.

People vote their values. No one is actually a policy expert on anything, even though we try to act like arm chair policy experts on anonymous message boards.

Sixteen seems young to vote... but then we trust 16-year-olds with 2,000-lb possibly lethal weapons (cars). And piloting planes. And owning firearms.

A nice attempt at trolling, perhaps? But it would be blatantly unconstitutional.

More importantly, I think disabled people, housewives, stay-at-home moms, and rural survivalists living off the grid should be able to vote in a representative democracy.

A lot of 16 and 17 year olds have part time jobs, pay payroll taxes, gasoline taxes, sales taxes, etc.

The whole, no taxation without representation thing comes into play.

According to Wiki, Austria, Argentina, Brazil, Germany have a legal voting age of 16.

when did you follow enough politics that you got past the pure rhetoric and at least tuned into deciding on issues/persona?

    but they get to vote.
I just don't want kids with no perspective of experience to vote - thy canot make an informed decision

Pelosi thinks lowering it would make 15 and 16 year olds get into politics. But most schools don't even have poli sci anymore.

Let's review: You voted for a mediocre Reality TV entertainer with no qualifications to be the leader of the Free World.
A salesman of real estate and frozen steak products who shows no capability or interest in learning about governance, statecraft, and policy.

You are in no position to claim your judgement is better than a garden variety 16 year old.

A person should not have to make a special trip to register to vote. It should be possible online, by mail etc.
Voting should be easy enough that it never jeopardizes your work and never involves hours long waits in line, it should be treated as the essential national treasure that it is, everywhere.

And it should always leave a verified paper trail no matter what machinery is involved.
