"Russia Criminalizes The Spread Of Online News Which 'Disrespects' The Government"

"Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new law which will allow the punishment of individuals and online media for spreading what Russia calls "fake news" and information which "disrespects" the state."

"The new rules allow prosecutors to direct complaints about material considered insulting to Russian officials to the government, which can then block websites publishing the information. Publications that repeatedly spread "unreliable" information which undermines social order, may face fines of up to $23,000, and repeat offenders could spend time in jail"

Differences is Russia is an autocracy headed by an autocrat, while the United States is a democracy, one currently led by a leader who wants to be an autocrat to appease his narcissistic view of the world

    "Insults Islam" comes to mind.

I'm guessing 'false News' is a code word for spreading Propaganda within the Nation to cause Confusion and Division.
Probably the heart of the matter that is happening in the US.

Trump makes clear to distinguish between the fake news media and the free and fair press. It is governing bodies like the EU, states such as Germany, the UK, and Canada that have legislated or otherwise threatened regulation of social media because of fake news.

Trump's "distinguish" between what he thinks is fake and not fake comes down to news that favors Trump, which he considers real news, and news that questions or criticizes Trump, which he refers to as fake, his "distinguish" has absolutely nothing to do with facts

Your accusation has nothing to do with facts. It has to do with cynicism: choosing the lowest possible motives for an action and believing, without evidence, that you have chosen the right one. Of course, the only one with any understanding of Trump's motives—Trump himself—completely contradicts your cynicism.
