Nope. Communism is a political system and socialism is an economic system. "Real" communism cannot exist without a socialist economic system even though communist nations like China have adopted many elements of capitalism such as free market and private ownership of large segments of major industries.

A nation can have government owned airlines and a democratic political system and it is not communist.

Today communism is not much more than rule by the communist party with whatever economic system they choose to run. The authoritarian/totalitarian elements of communist nations are not unique to communism but were imposed on nations with long histories of authoritarian control.

All political systems are moving toward a mix, it is simply the way of survival. Pure Communism has ceased to exist as has pure capitalism. All governments now operate with a mix, and the only argument is what that mix is. There is no black and white or pure bad and pure good when it comes to political system ideology.

Unless there is a Constitutional amendment, yes on the Federal level. Now if California, or any other state, wants to go full commie then I don't have a problem with that.

And state ownership of an airline does not necessarily mean there is state planning and ownership of all private property. So a government airline does not mean it is communism as you claimed. Also, the "no private property" is simply an abstract concept that does not exist in reality.
