FWIW, the economies that have become stronger during the last decade or two involve socialist states or authoritarian regimes with socialist policies such as central planning, protectionism, and regulated markets. Examples include Japan, the Asian Tigers, China, Vietnam, and some members of Next Eleven.

Even more interesting, Trump appears to be following some of these policies, as seen in plans to decrease immigration (not just illegal) and restricting free trade.
