WASHINGTON – House Democratic leaders plan to call for a vote on a resolution in response to remarks that freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar made about Israel at a town hall event, a senior Democratic aide told USA TODAY.

Staffers from the offices of top Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., worked on the resolution condemning Omar's remarks over the weekend but the text is still not final, the aide said. Pelosi and Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Tuesday evening that the resolution will be updated to include anti-Muslim bias, according to a Democratic aide. The vote, originally anticipated for Wednesday, may be pushed back with Hoyer saying Wednesday it “hasn’t been decided" if there will be a vote this week.

Omar, D-Minn., suggested that the pro-Israel lobby pushes lawmakers to show "allegiance to a foreign country" and said the charge of anti-Semitism is "designed to end the debate" about Israel's treatment of Palestinians.

WHY IS A KNOWN RACIST BACKING SOMALIAN-BORN ILHAN OMAR?
A prominent American racist and white supremacist seems to be taking sides with Somalian-born Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.

On Thursday, David Duke named Omar “the most important member of US Congress” in a tweet and then sent readers back to his website where he has a recorded hour-long and overtly antisemitic show.
During the show, he does not specifically mention Omar, but he does justify euthanasia killings of Jews by the Nazis, charges the United States with having “unleashed Jewish power,” and attacks “Jewish elite control over media.”
Duke tweeted, “Dr Duke & Eric Striker: By Defiance to Z.O.G. Ilhan Omar is NOW the most important Member of the US Congress!” with an edited picture of Rep. Omar with a smiling heart eyed emoji next to her face.


Z.O.G. stands for Zionist Occupation Government, an antisemitic conspiracy theory.
This is not the first time that Duke has defended Omar. Back in early February, when she first brought controversy upon herself for tweeting that politicians are pro-Israel because they are paid to be by AIPAC, Duke publicly backed her, as well.
