Default The Latest: Manafort sentenced to 47 months in prison

    Don't drop the soap?!!

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — The Latest on Donald Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort (all times local):
    6:59 p.m.
Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has been sentenced to 47 months in prison for tax and bank fraud related to his work advising Ukrainian politicians.

Judge T.S. Ellis III imposed the sentence Thursday, capping the only jury trial following indictments stemming from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

A jury last year convicted Manafort on eight counts, concluding that he hid from the Internal Revenue Service millions of dollars he earned from his work in Ukraine.

Federal sentencing guidelines had called for a term of roughly 20 years, but few observers had expected he would receive a sentence that long.

Manafort still faces sentencing in the District of Columbia, where he pleaded guilty in a separate case connected to illegal lobbying.

What crap. He was an international money laundering crook who was playing with mega-millions of bucks. He was guilty of witness tampering. Guilty of 2 counts bank fraud and 5 counts tax evasion. He was hiding 14 foreign bank accounts. And he did not even get 4 years. You get more for stealing a car.

He got a light sentence because the judge is a fucking republicunt. He will be sentenced in D.C. soon and apparently the judge there is NOT a fucking republicunt. He will serve MORE than 4 years. But he won't survive cos the inmates will love that hairy butt in the showers.

Outrageous. Prosecutors need to appeal the sentence and demand something within the federal guidelines. Clearly this judge is in Trump's pocket, some shekels traded hands I can assure you.

Also this judge should be a first target for impeachment. This is a clear sign of the damage to our justice system done by allowing the Republicans to flood the judiciary with political hacks.

Yeah, slap on the wrist, really. White male, white collar criminal.... you're right about the car theft, particularly if you are not white.

You don't think that they will run the sentences concurrently because they're in different jurisdictions?

the blood thirst on this thread is palpable. I wonder where the ridiculous hate for Manafrt comes from ?

HE'S BEEN IN SOLITAIRE FOR 9 MONTHS - no comment on that human rights violation?

He's reduced to a cane and a freaking wheel chair! Now that other Mueller lackey judge will crucify him
    and finish him off

    https://www.politico.com/story/2019/...-fraud-1210786
Ellis, an appointee of President Ronald Reagan, stressed that he found the sentencing guidelines in the case — which called for between roughly 20 and 24 years — “excessive,” and said he thought Manafort had “lived an otherwise blameless life.” Ellis will count the nine months Manafort has already spent locked up toward his sentence.

Ellis said in court that he considered the guidelines “way out of whack” because other defendants charged with tax evasion or hiding foreign accounts typically get sentences of less than a year and often just probation.

    Manafort’s attorneys clearly agreed.

“It’s just so disproportionate,” defense lawyer Thomas Zehnle said.
“Tax evasion is by no means jaywalking, but it’s also not narcotics trafficking where people have their lives ruined and people get killed.”
