To my mind at least, it sounds suspiciously like the Dictatorship of the Proletariat as expounded, at length by Karl Marx, in Das Kapital.

Rousseau also philosophied at length about the Noble Savage. He might well have changed his mind if he had lived to encounter some of the ignoble savages on JPP.

or spent time with Native Americans of that time...who probably would have tomahawked him as a naive fool.

Yet he remains one of the great philosophs of the Age of Enlightenment and was deeply influential to early American political theorist such as John Adams and to a greater extent Thomas Jefferson.

I studied electronics, I'm fairly sure that Rousseau had little to say about the polarisation of dielectrics either. I guess he was just too incapacitated.

Yes that does sound like that, especially the part general people’s will as the highest authority

how do you reconcile "the population shall submit to the rule of authority" and "All political power must reside with the people, exercising their general will"?........was he simply being inconsistent?.........

My understanding is that the society is going to be a majority dominated society. You are either on board or you are going to be forced to be on board, and the majority represents the general will of people, and everyone shall submit to this rule of authority. My interpretation might be very wrong, I’m open to any corrections

Almost all the founding fathers and the movers and shakers of the American Revolution had read Rousseau and were profoundly influenced by him. Jefferson in particular.
