What if I have a first cousin who is over 25 years older than me, would he be once removed?
Just to clear things up for all you that tend to get confused on what the proper terms are: For those of us that have built there family trees its very frustrating when people call every relative the same title regardless of if they are seconds, thirds, removed.. etc.
first cousin
Your first cousins are the people in your family who have two of the same grandparents as you. In other words, they are the children of your aunts and uncles.
Second Cousin
Your second cousins are the people in your family who have the same great-grandparents as you., but not the same grandparents.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth Cousins
Your third cousins have the same great-great-grandparents, fourth cousins have the same great-great-great-grandparents, and so on.
Removed
When the word "removed" is used to describe a relationship, it indicates that the two people are from different generations. You and your first cousins are in the same generation (two generations younger than your grandparents), so the word "removed" is not used to describe your relationship.
The words "once removed" mean that there is a difference of one generation. For example, your mother's first cousin is your first cousin, once removed. This is because your mother's first cousin is one generation younger than your grandparents and you are two generations younger than your grandparents. This one-generation difference equals "once removed."
Twice removed means that there is a two-generation difference. You are two generations younger than a first cousin of your grandmother, so you and your grandmother's first cousin are first cousins, twice removed.

Q: Senator Obama, would you take the same pledge? No tax increases on people under $250,000?
OBAMA: I not only have pledged not to raise their taxes, I've been the first candidate in this race to specifically say I would cut their taxes.

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honor for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Ohh Removed is not the same as disowned ?
Once removed is not just one branch disowning them , but not the other branch ?

You can be your own grandpaw
If your grandpa marries a lady and she adopts your Dad and then grandpa dies and you marry her maybe so.
I forget how it works, but yeah it is possible, there was a popular redneck song about it a few years ago.
Well, chap, we're not elitist-chardonnay drinking limosine libertarians like you. We say cousin for everything and we're sticking with it. None of this "twice removed" bull$hit. Or "2nd" or "3rd" cousins BS. Its "cuzzins". And you should stop trying to force all your learnedd stuffs onto us.
