Default SCOTUS Limits Civil Forfeiture Laws

This may be the best SCOTUS decision in my life time.

Permiting civil forfeiture that is inappropriate to the crime without due process protections has been a major corrupting influence in government at the local level for a long time. I know a friend who lost his car for having a roach in his ashtray and almost got in a fist fight with the prosecutor who took his car from him when I said he was....and I quote "A no good rotten fucking thief and his feet stunk".

This was a unanimous decision and though I'm sure nutless local politicians who shit themselves in fear over having to ask for tax increases are now shitting themselves that they can't run their local kleptocracies anymore. Great decision SCOTUS and probably the highlight of RBG's career in writing the majority opinon...which was concurred by no less than Clarence Thomas.

This was a great day in Americal legal jurisprudence.

No, the best decision of your life was McDonald, which they cite fairly heavily in this decision. This is a good top 5 though.

I guess there are certain things that everybody agrees on.

It will be interesting to see just how far this protection goes and what kind of limitations are put in place.

Hopefully a person will no longer have to face the risk of losing their house just for growing a couple of pot plants in the backyard.

I heard Trump wants to raid that stuff to fund his harebrained scheme to wall in the USA from the world.
