Sure. If someone can work, but refuses to, I'm fine with denying them social benefits. But if someone is disadvantaged in life, but they're still trying to better themselves, the government should help them.

Depends on why they're "disadvantaged". Many of those you would put into that category are there because of choices they made. No one should be forced to pay for their mistakes. As for the other, that's what charity is designed to do. The bleeding hearts say charity isn't enough. It is if those truly needing it are the ones getting it and those that caused their own problem get what they should be getting to pay for what they caused, which is zero.

The government isn't doing it. People from which the government takes money are forced to do it.
