That has always been my position - It is completely implausible that Trump is an active and witting operational asset of Russian state intelligence services.

The Kremlin sees him as a useful idiot.

The primary reason the Kremlin wanted to assist Donald Trump in defeating the far more qualified and capable Hillary Clinton is that Russia's goal for nearly a century has been to discredit western liberal democracy, to undermine America's leadership and authority in the world, and to part us from our NATO and European allies.

In a certain sense, you can see it from their position. All the years that Ronald Reagan and conservative Republicans lectured Russians about the merits of democracy and of free and fair elections must have annoyed the shit out of them. Because they could see the hypocrisy of conservatives who, back in America, were busy undermining democracy, gerrymandering election results, and thwarting the will of the people. Putin could actually take lessons from Republicans in how to undermine democracy.

With the dim-witted, arrogant, uninformed, and easily duped dotard Donald Trump, the Kremlin undoubtedly cannot believe the sheer luck that fell into their lap.

talk about dim witted.. Trump has expanded NATO weapons, gotten out of the INF treaty
and has armed the Ukraine separatists with offensive Javelin ( TOW) missiles.

He's added his own sanctions as well if i recall..

NATO has been forced to put in more money,and the alliance is united as ever,
