Self reliant meet helpless.

Desperation to keep your stash. There is an us versus them mentality in both groups. If society broke down, no doubt we would much more "on our own" than we are today. The interdependent social network that keeps us all alive and allows for individuals to specialize on Medicine, Law, Art, Science, Math while not worrying about farming, clean water, and personal safety would fall apart. The value of the money the 1% has stashed would also disappear, and those who have depended their entire life on paying other people to do all the activities of daily living would be unable to survive. So why are they political bedfellows, because the 1% is using the hard working individual in an effort to keep his stash. The American way, if you can enslave enough people to work for less than the value of their service, you get rich, especially if you never let them actually catch the carrot you dangle in front of them. Keeping taxes high on the middle class and low on the wealthy (percentage wise) perpetuates the financial enslavement system. The individualist gives up on being financially wealthy and preps, the wealthy promotes the system and sits on a huge pile of case. BAM, modern America, Trumpism!
