    why are soybean prices high......
in 1972 they skryrocketed from $4 to $10 based on news that a new plastic could be manufactured from soy oil...
in 2008 they jumped from $6 to $15 because of the discovery of bio diesel fuels.....
in 2012 they hit $17 because....
Grain prices set records as U.S. drought, food worries spread

A wave of bankruptcies is sweeping the U.S. Farm Belt as trade disputes add pain to the low commodity prices that have been grinding down American farmers for years... Bankruptcies in three regions covering major farm states last year rose to the highest level in at least 10 years. The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, which includes Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, had double the bankruptcies in 2018 compared with 2008. In the Eighth Circuit, which includes states from North Dakota to Arkansas, bankruptcies swelled 96%. The 10th Circuit, which covers Kansas and other states, last year had 59% more bankruptcies than a decade earlier.

States in those circuits accounted for nearly half of all sales of U.S. farm products in 2017, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data. The rise in farm bankruptcies represents a reckoning for rural America, which has suffered a multiyear slump in prices for corn, soybeans and other farm commodities touched off by a world-wide glut, made worse by growing competition from agriculture powerhouses such as Russia and Brazil.

Trade disputes under the Trump administration with major buyers of U.S. farm goods, such as China and Mexico, have further roiled agricultural markets and pressured farmers’ incomes. Prices for soybeans and hogs plummeted after those countries retaliated against U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs by imposing duties on U.S. products like oilseeds and pork, slashing shipments to big buyers. Low milk prices are driving dairy farmers out of business in a market that’s also struggling with retaliatory tariffs on U.S. cheese from Mexico and China. Tariffs on U.S. pork have helped contribute to a record buildup in U.S. meat supplies, leading to lower prices for beef and chicken.

    (snip)

For Nebraska farmer Kirk Duensing, filing for bankruptcy was a last resort, his only choice after several years of low corn and soybean prices meant too many bills he couldn’t pay. Mr. Duensing has managed to keep farming, hiring himself out to plant crops for other farmers for extra income and borrowing from an investment group at an interest rate twice as high as offered by traditional lenders. Despite selling some land and equipment, Mr. Duensing remains more than $1 million in debt.

And that was after TRUMP offered some special 'bailouts' for the very same group who are losing their asses now!

The shutdown and the high-tariffs both work in the favor of Corporate farmers who will easily recover their losses through Farm Bill subsidies that only apply to the Corporate Farmers in the first place- that do not apply to family farmers who are unable to incorporate and compete with corporate farmers!

Because the more independent family farms that the corporate farmers can run out of business and drive them into bankruptcy- eliminates their only competition.

This is about fucking the commonwealth over to sustain and feed the filthy rich fat cats and wall street!

Is there any question why there are RED STATES?

RED STATES are drunk on Farm bill subsidies- and Donald Trump!

lets be honest.......if a farmer is filing bankruptcy, its not because soybean prices drop $1.20, especially since the actual court statistics I provided show bankruptcies in 2018 were HALF the rate of 2008 instead of double as is claimed........

As is true with most everything, you ignore the obvious. As more family farms are lost to mega agriculture there are bound to be fewer bankruptcies. Trumps trade war in which China has bought no soybeans from American farmers the more that will be lost, and mega ag will just control more.

This is just terrible. All those trumptard farmers filing for bankruptcy is really upsetting.

All I can offer all these trumptards who are hurting right now is ' FUCKING THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS'.

And you farmers better not ask for government assistance - cos that is SOCIALISM and we all know how much republicunts hate socialism.

So sell your farms to the Chinese, get off their land and go down to the southern border and start building that fucking wall for trump.

We all know you would happily do that for your trump. Just don't expect to be paid cos trump NEVER pays his workers.

Isn't a bail out - SOCIALISM??? I thought republicunts hated socialism. But once again we see republicunts are happy with SOCIALIST handouts as long as ONLY republicunts get the handouts.

If anyone else gets a handout - then republicunts go batshit crazy.

Sadly the democrats will support these handouts / bailouts - because despite the recipients being far right republicunt arseholes - the democrats care about EVERYONE - including selfish, greedy and stupid republicunts.

I'm surprised since so many European countries ban the importation of GMO crops and byproducts. Do you have a source for that? Thanks.

LOL, where did it say that all family farms have disappeared? Does it not say there are still around 2 million farms left from the maximum of over 6 million?

Once again you show your stupidity, and inability to see the obvious.
