Default Mueller probe 'close to being completed': acting U.S. attorney general

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The probe of possible Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election, led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, is wrapping up, Acting U.S. Attorney General Matthew Whitaker told reporters on Monday.

"I've been fully briefed on the investigation and I look forward to Director Mueller delivering the final report," he said at a press conference on U.S. charges against China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. "Right now the investigation is I think close to being completed and I hope that we can get the report from Director Mueller as soon as possible."

Sure. I'll believe it when I see it.
It'll be timed with primaries or the gen. election in '20.

Just was renewed for another 6 months. But you need to define" close to finished". Is it a week, a month of 5 months? It was a meaningless statement that should not have been made.

You mean like Comey announced the FBI was reopening the Clinton email investigation ten days before the election in '16?
    That was a masterstroke!

Yep and Comey was basically insubordinate as well as incompetent doing that along with not recommending hrc be prosecuted back in the summer of '16. Not his call. Deservedly, he was fired.

I could be wrong but Mueller still needs to waterboard Roger Stone before Stone is ruined financially with legal bills for asking Wikileaks if they had any more information.

We won't see the report unless Congress orders it.

I think you're missing the subtlety here. Back in the summer of '16, Comey could have passed the buck to Loretta Lynch, who would probably have buried it. But then Comey couldn't have floored Hillary with reopening the investigation ten days before the election, see?

Trump may well have owed him the Presidency! And he fired him???

Any way you look at it, Comey was a fuck up. And his book confirmed it.

That's what Trump does. When your only tool is a hammer everything looks like a nail.

A broken clock is right twice a day.
He couldn't go wrong firing Comey. If hrc was elected she would have been justified in firing him.

Agreed. No time soon. But definitely no later than Oct. 2020. Imagine that.
