Thumbs down Kevin Hassett says US economic growth could near 0% in 1Q if shutdown continues

Holding fed employees & the country hostage so he can put his name on a large edifice he said Mexico would pay for.... Shame

If the prolonged partial government shutdown extends for the whole first quarter of 2019, it’s possible that , will be “very close” to zero percent, according to Kevin Hassett, chair of the Council of Economic Advisers.

“Given the fact that the first quarter tends to be low because of residual seasonality, then you could end up with a number very close to zero in the first quarter,” he said Wednesday during an interview on CNN, adding, “But then again the second quarter number would be humongous if the government reopened. It would be like 4 percent or 5 percent.”
"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility. His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world’s largest megaphone," McConnell wrote. "His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."

Just where do you get that 4-5% from? I wasn't aware that you were an economist.

It does represent a very large part of our economy, and the side effects.

You have 800,000 people out of work, plus hundreds of thousands of contractors. Now show us where this doesn't have an effect on our economy.

    LOL
It's obviously going to have some effect, but it's laughable to believe all growth is due to government. Hilarious

Let's put it to the test and do this experiment:

Let's completely shut down the government for a year. Police, fire protection, garbage collection, highway maintainence, border control, airport security, sewage collection and treatment, social secuiriy and Medicare payments, schools, all government contracts.

And then lets see how long it would take for us to spiral into a dystonpian hell hole.
