Default A Fight Over Football, A Fight Over Cakifornia’s Soul

In honor of yesterday’s Championship games and the upcoming Super Bowl, an excellent article on the politics of (youth) football in California. I know there are many liberals who are football fans. I don’t think it would be unanimous among liberals the idea of banning tackle football until kids are 12 years old. That’s the battle that’s being fought in our state.

An interesting article. It raises a very good point. I have to agree tackle football should not be allowed for pre-teens.

And I would hope that improvements can be made to make the sport safer still.

Better protective gear and rule changes.

It is a cool game and I'd hate to see it go. But then, most of the world plays soccer. Maybe we should too. The article said soccer has experienced a huge upswing in schools. Maybe it's time for Pro Soccer to go head to head with Pro Football. But then, would big money spoil Pro Soccer?

Instead of banning tackle football, they need to teach them how to tackle before they ever put pads on. Let them spend a couple weeks playing rugby with nothing but a mouthpiece and they will learn pretty quick how to do it right.

Not here. I started playing after my senior year of football at a local club then later in college. Probably somewhere around 2 to 3 weeks in, I realized that I would have been a hell of a better football player had I played rugby first. Became a much better tackler and improved my endurance by at least 50%

Most sports are not recommended for pre-teens.

You can tell kids, "Don't go out there and knock your head into someone else" but all they are going to do, is go out there and knock their head into someone else!

Teenagers? Now they are much more hard headed!

You'll learn that if you ever raised one!

For entertainment proposes I prefer the WWF to the NFL.....its all preplanned anyway. New England is like the boy bands of the 90s......its all fake and manipulated in order make a few bucks.

Look who is in the BIG GAME......its just a quinky dink that LA needs a new stadium (that someone has to pay for) and Tom Terrific needs another superbowl to make it 3 for this decade making him the BOY BAND GOLDEN BOY as he rides off into the sun set.

And Really? 2 overtime games for the league championships? Hollywood could not have written a better script for entertainment purposes. Its all fixed.

Did anyone catch the last 2 minutes of regulation play? Brady threw an interception and the ref's flag did not come out until after it was clear that KC had taken the ball away, basically ending the game in regulation. The flag after the ball went out of bounds to KC? Neutral Zone infraction.....on a player that had lined up like that the entire game with one hand touching the imaginary neutral zone. They new the call was there waiting to be called at the right time. The right time was when NE threw the interception. Its all rigged.
