November 26, 2000 Omaha Herald news article listed Phillips as 45 years of age making him 63 eighteen years later.
He would have been 17 years of age in 1972.
I don’t believe he was in Vietnam.

The last birthday draft, in 1972, was for those born in 1952 and they never were called up, as I noted earlier.

What? I have never heard that term used ever.

CNN said Phillips was a “Vietnam Veteran”

If he was a Vietnam vet he went in at 18 as a volunteer in 1972 and was sent there for literally weeks... after signing up when he turned 18 in 1972. The war ended on March 29, 1973 (earlier actually in January, but that was when the troops left). He would have turned 18 just as the war was ending or, possibly, just afterwards.

It's possible he was a Vietnam war vet (if he's really 64 now), but not very likely.
He could not have enlisted? '73 was 45 years ago, and he was 18 and could have enlisted at 17 as many minorities did. You're not only questioning his service, you are questioning his age.

Read my earlier post. He could have enlisted, but if he was in Vietnam it was, quite literally, for weeks. It is possible he is a Vietnam War veteran. It just isn't likely.

Phillips joined the Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War as a Recon Ranger and Infantryman.[8][9][10][11][12][13] He served in the U.S. military from 1972 to 1976.[14]

He could have enlisted but the question is did he service in Vietnam. If not he is not a Vietnam veteran as alleged by the media, only a veteran.
I love the great investigative reporting by the so called journalists.

He has never claimed he served in Vietnam. His words are that he was a Vietnam-time vet.

An excerpt from this article is dated November 21, 2000. I'm wondering why you guys think he has to be a liar about his service.

"...There's only one flag at the site that could remotely be called a protest banner. Wedged into a pile of cut logs next to the main tepee, it demands attention for American soldiers missing in action in Vietnam.

"I'm a veteran," says Phillips, "a Marine Corps infantryman in the '70s, and I'm a patriot, and those soldiers need remembering."

Phillips says he was removed from his mother's care at age 5 and raised by a white family until 17, when he joined the Marines. As a result of his upbringing, he explains bitterly, he has lost much of his Omaha culture."

Why do you say he's "claiming" to be a war vet, do you know something the rest of us don't?

    Yes he did.
In the CNN interview he says:
    “And I’m a Vietnam Veteran and I know. . . . . . .”

This boils down to Phillips with an agenda along with the other two groups.
Everyone has an agenda nowadays and they love the liberal media to cover it.
