According to the Washington Post, Phillips, 64, said that he felt threatened by the teens and that they swarmed around him as he and other activists were wrapping up the march and preparing to leave.
This is a lie. They didn’t swarm around him. He strolled right into the middle of their group:

ANYONE....that was actually there and saw action does not go around bragging about it in public....its like pulling teeth to even get anyone to acknowledge their service. Why? There are several reasons. There is an engrained sense of "shame" bestowed upon those who returned. Its a most difficult thing to get a Nam era vet to look you directly in the eye might less go into some convoluted story line about his/her time in action...its the look, the 1000 yard stare like you are being looked right through past your reality to the reality left behind that will always be there waiting to escape in sudden moments of flash backs. It can be something so simple as the smell of aviation fuel or diesel...… the sound of a ceiling fan in the center of an empty room. Vets avoid these situations. I know...the Nam never really leaves, its your lifetime companion.....a companion that awakens you in the middle of the night without warning, a companion that floods over you like someone pouring cold water down your spine.

The reason vets refuse to address that reality? SHAME.....its like you are not a man, you are weak, you must be at fault for the weakness, as your friends and neighbors told you that you were wrong for serving, weak because you came back not a whole man.....weak because you refuse to look anyone in the eye because you are afraid they might see within the void of the blank stare the reality of what you have actually witnessed and lived. A real vet just pushes the fog and memories to a place in the back of their minds they dare not go on a volunteer basis......as it comes flooding back on occasion without any outside prompting.

In other words....just get the hell out of my face and leave me to my own demons. That's the story....the real story.

I saw the entire video, as shot by various ppl. I saw Mr. Phillips try to calm things down by walking between the yelling groups and singing the AIM song. I know the words in Anishinaabemowin; we sing it often here. It is not a war song; it is a song calling the ppl together. Even my professor, who posted the first video that I saw of this event on his FB, said that he thought he saw that the belligerent white kids were beginning to feel the song and the message of togetherness, and that maybe a change might have happened. But even so, in the background you could still hear those kids yelling "Build the wall, build the wall." Ppl with a lot more native blood than I have are a lot more forgiving than I am.

Why didn’t he bang his drum in front of the hateful person from the Black Hebrews (the person that start it).
The Black Hebrews would have pounded the shit out of Phillips. Also it’s more newsworthy to conflict a white kid with a Trump hat instead of a black man who hates Trump.
A confrontation between Phillips and the Black Hebrews would not have made national news.
