Default Why Trump Will Lose The Government Shutdown Fight

President Donald Trump’s latest offer of a deal to resolve the government shutdown was an inept playing of a weak hand. It was never in the cards for Democrats to agree to Trump’s $5.7 billion wall demand in exchange for just three years of protection for the Dreamers plus temporary reprieves for some other immigrants.

Trump obviously knew this when he made the offer. He is still betting that the public will accept his argument that a physical wall is needed to protect Americans from an invasion of refugees and an inflow of illegal drugs. But public opinion isn’t buying it.

I think the calculus is quite simple.

-Trump needs to plead with the President of Mexico for money for his beautiful Berlin Wall. That's who Trump guaranteed, time after time, was paying for the wall.

-The U.S. congress should never give into extortion. Future presidents would just be emboldened to shut down the government as a matter of blackmail.

-Trump said he would take credit for the shutdown, and the public overwhelmingly blames Trump for the shutdown. Its on Trump to open the government.

-If Trump wants to continue his shut down, he risks crashing the economy and putting a crushing end to the decade-long Obama Economic Recovery. That's his choice to crash the economy, and accountability for it will be hung around his neck.

The shutdown ends when he gets his money for a barrier.

Only truly pompous sanctimonious arseholes like Crypiss take words like calculus that have very specific meanings and use them inappropriately in an attempt to make themselves appear more erudite and learned.

President Trump can officially start laying off workers today.

The shutdown will pay for the wall once he offloads 800,000 takers

    Who shut down the government?

On Dec 22nd, 2018, when the government was shut down, all branches of government were in the hands of the Republicans. If they had waited two more weeks, the Democrats would have been in charge of the House of Representatives and they would have passed the spending bills from the Senate. There would have been no shutdown.

But Paul Ryan was in charge of the House on Dec 22, 2018, and he carried the water for Donald Trump. This is just a small factoid for those that have forgotten who shut down the government and how? When the government was shut down, Republicans were in charge of everything. Now, they want to blame the Democrats and demand that the Democrats open our government.

People need to be reminded who was in charge of all branches of government when the government was shut down.

I love the move from "Mexico will pay for the wall" to "the taxpayers will pay for the wall" to "barrier."

    It is so cute.

The numbers mentioned in the losses to the economy were in excess of a trillion dollars.. How often.. per week? Per month?

The democrats are united. Trump originally asked for 1.3 billion for border security and that's just what he is going to get, and no more.
