The real reason they are obese is: it is more profitable for capitalism to sell them junk food.

Good healthy food that keeps people fit and trim is only available to the rich.

If you live in a food desert then highly processed food is all you can afford.

Generally, the more processed the food is, the higher the profit.

It's all part of the Major Corporate / Wall Street Wealth Extraction Scheme.

And then the Health Care Profit Machine can get rich dealing with the consequences.

Isn't it wonderful for Wall Street?

    And that's what Reagan wanted.

Lol, I was out running some errands yesterday and did not have a lunch with me. Since I don't eat fast food, I just went into a grocery store and got a couple slices of lunch meat from the deli, a 64 cent cucumber, and a bottled water. I paid the same $4.50 as I would have for drive through fast food.

Even with lousy food choices, a person will still get slim if he can't afford enough of the lousy food. Obesity is a sign of being overfed, and being overfed on my dime.

It wasn't simply Reagan and if you are a student of why Americans hate what made us great check this book out. Reagan just bought into the myths as many Americans do today.

"Starting in the mid-1930s, a handful of prominent American businessmen forged alliances with the aim of rescuing America--and their profit margins--from socialism and the "nanny state." Long before the "culture wars" usually associated with the rise of conservative politics, these driven individuals funded think tanks, fought labor unions, and formed organizations to market their views. These nearly unknown, larger-than-life, and sometimes eccentric personalities--such as GE's zealous, silver-tongued Lemuel Ricketts Boulware and the self-described "revolutionary" Jasper Crane of DuPont--make for a fascinating, behind-the-scenes view of American history."

How highly processed was the lunch meat?

How many grocery stores with fresh produce are located in food deserts.

Oh, and here's the big gulp of this conversation:

Did you find this grocery store in a food desert?

I am educated in processed meats, which is why I got my slices from the deli and not from a package. This doesn't matter much though, what matters is that it was not a fast food combo like what is being offered in the food desert that surrounds the grocery store. People look right past the grocery stores, since they are so accustomed to eating junk food. Much of the time, food deserts are only perceptions.

    Oh, yes.

    It is so true.

It's not like Regan invented this stuff. He was just the slick-talking smiley faced salesman to wrap it all up into a handy sound byte:

    'Government is the problem.'

And, of course, we were supposed to vote for him to run the problem.

Something I knew better than to do.

I thought Jimmy Carter was much more in touch with what America needed. Conserve more, value character over wealth, care about the unfortunate, you know, all those kinds of boring things.

Well that must make it so much easier to blame poor people if they are fat.

    And handy, too!

The health care profit machine can extract lots of wealth by getting government to pay them to treat poor fat people.

And then wealthy people can invest in those Wall Street offerings to get in on the wealth-building bandwagon.

    It's just wonderful, eh?

Great country to be rich in.

    Well there ya go!

    What a great solution.

All we have to do is unload a few containers of twinkies and beenie weenies within a few blocks of the poor people and fatten them up. Then they can't possibly be poor any more.

And it would be so much cheaper than running the government safety net.

Just think of all the government workers that could be fired.

Doesn't that picture give you a warm feeling?

Seeing all those government workers fired?

And then you can start dropping the containers wherever they end up.

Your dime? You pay for all the poor people. Richer than I thought. Fact is poor people not only have financial problems, but transporation problems. They buy what they can get to, which in innercities are not the national markets. There are fast food places everywhere.

Yeah, they eat a lot of canned food and food which is heavily laden with preservatives.

    Long shelf life stuff.

Businesses get money and they pay some of it out to the workers.

Government gets money and it pays most of it out to workers.

Businesses Keep some of the money they get; and funnel it to the owners who get rich.

Government is owned by the people, it doesn't keep the money it gets. It is all paid out.

Government is better for the economy than business.

Government is not the problem. Unscrupulous business is the problem.

If you want to know where the problem is just look at who is getting rich.

The richest people in the nation didn't get that way on government paychecks.

The richest people in the nation are a problem because the wealth they concentrate into their own fortunes is removed from active circulation. Active circulation of money is people buying things and people selling things. Those dollars trade hands over and over, generating more transactions. That's our economy, transactions. The total amount of transactions is called the GDP. When we have a bigger government, and fewer ultra-rich concentrations of business wealth, we have more active circulation of wealth, more transactions, more multiplying of the value of a dollar to the American society, and a higher GDP.

When we have a high GDP, our economy is stronger.

It is good to have a big government.
