Default News that liberals likely loathe

    GILLUM DIDN'T THRILL 'EM

Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Judge Robert J. Luck to the Florida Supreme Court Monday.

Luck, 39, is a judge on the Miami-based 3rd District Court of Appeal. He is a former circuit judge and federal prosecutor and the first Jewish justice in more than 20 years.

"The Constitution, not the Judiciary is supreme," Luck said. "This morning, governor with you standing by my side, I am taking an oath to make the Constitution, and not the Judiciary supreme. I have sworn to God to support, protect and defend the Constitution and government of the United States and the State of Florida."

It was the latest in a week of major announcements by the governor in his first week in office.

Within 24 hours of taking his oath, he announced the appointment of the first Hispanic woman to the state’s supreme court, Justice Barbara Lagoa.

The next day, DeSantis took on a major concern for many Floridians: water.

He called for a fresh start at the South Florida Water Management District while in Stuart.

He also announced an executive order securing billions for restoration of the Everglades, along with a blue-green algae task force.

Then in his third day in office, there were more changes.

He suspended Okaloosa County schools Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson because teachers in her school district are accused of abusing special needs children.

He also issued a full pardon for the Groveland Four, the four black men falsely accused of rape 70 years ago.

Then he kept a promise he made to fire DEMOCRAT Sheriff Scott Israel. He appointed the county’s first black Sheriff Gregory Tony to take his place.

A federal judge has ruled that Jack Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado, could proceed to sue the state for anti-religious bias.

Phillips previously fought a case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court after the Colorado Civil Rights Commission cited him for refusing to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding. The Supreme Court found that the commission discriminated against Phillips for his religious views.

On the same day that the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to take Phillips' appeal, Denver attorney Autumn Scardina requested Phillips to bake a cake that celebrated gender transition with a blue outside and an pink inside. After Phillips refused, the Colorado Civil Rights Commission cited him again.

Despite Phillips winning his case at the Supreme Court, the state still decided to prosecute him, causing him to file a lawsuit to seek relief.

Phillips serves all customers regardless of their lifestyle but doesn’t create custom cakes that express messages that conflict with his religious beliefs.

The United States is extending the deployment of active duty soldiers and Coast Guard members at the border with Mexico, officials said Monday.

As part of the move to extend the mission, the Pentagon said it was “transitioning its support at the southwestern border from hardening ports of entry to mobile surveillance and detection, as well as concertina wire emplacement between ports of entry.”

“DoD will continue to provide aviation support,” the statement added, referring to the Department of Defense.

The partial shutdown is advancing a long-standing priority — constraining the government.

There is a realization among some that the Schumer shutdown is not the end of the world.

Those encouraging a hard line include acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and acting White House budget director Russell T. Vought, as well as leaders of the House Freedom Caucus, whose members have taken on an influential role with the White House.

Reps. Mark Meadows Jim Jordan, leaders of the Freedom Caucus, have urged Trump to stay the course. They have built national profiles with calls to slash federal payrolls permanently.

“Cut it or shut it,” Vice President Pence said.

The Schumer shutdown is a temporary means to an end for something they have long pursued, which is limiting the size and scope and role of government.

Conservatives have questioned the size and effectiveness of the federal bureaucracy. The Schumer shutdown has underscored their view that government can function with fewer employees.

“There’s a moment when people say, ‘Did you notice what percentage of this agency was viewed as nonessential?” said Grover Norquist.

Stephen Bannon called shutdowns “blunt-force measures that certainly show what’s essential and what’s not.”

Trump’s conservatives allies have few qualms about Washington’s empty streets and dark offices.

Trump reinforced the Schumer shutdown’s effects, tweeting, “The damage done to our country from a badly broken border is far greater than a shutdown.”

The Schumer shutdown follows two years of contraction of the federal workforce under Trump. During his first 18 months in office, the government shrank by 17,000 employees, according to an analysis of federal personnel data by The Washington Post — the first downward shift in two decades.

As one of his first acts, Trump froze hiring across government, except at the Department of Veterans Affairs and a few other agencies. The freeze morphed into a slowdown that has left hundreds of jobs unfilled as employees retire.

The agencies that have seen the largest drops since Trump took office are the Departments of Housing and Urban Development, Education, Commerce and Energy.

Just 6 percent of civil servants are 30 or younger. Almost 20 percent of the workforce overall was eligible to retire in October, including more than a quarter of HUD, the Treasury Department, the Environmental Protection Agency and NASA.

I have - and those employees most likely will get a check for not working during the Schumer shutdown when it finally ends.

In the past, hasn't it been the case where those furloughed received back pay when returning to work after the shutdown? That's not a furlough, that's a paid vacation.

True. Think any liberals will whine about "deficits" when fed slackers get pay for doing nothing, courtesy of cucky Chucky Schumer's shutdown?

Based on how Liberals view things, it appears they believe those getting what amounts to a paid vacation deserve it because of "pain and suffering".
