DELTA, JET BLUE, UNITED pilots are warning flying will become dangerous

I have no idea how this works but I have some suspicions. Will INTERNATIONAL CARRIERS continue to fly into the US if our air traffic control is limited or shuts down or safety becomes questionable? This article is A WEEK OLD. I wonder what they might be saying now. TSA, inspectors, air marshals, canine dogs, maintenance and on and on on.

I pray the 'sleeper cells' out there stay SLEEPING!

The effects of the latest government shutdown are being felt across the US.

The air-transport system on which America depends is also feeling the pinch. On Wednesday, the Air Line Pilots Association International (ALPA) sent a letter to President Donald Trump urging him to end the shutdown.

"I am writing to urge you to take the necessary steps to immediately end the shutdown of government agencies that is adversely affecting the safety, security, and efficiency of our national airspace system," Captain Joe DePete, the president of the ALPA, said in the letter.

The union, which represents 61,000 pilots flying for airlines such as Delta, United, JetBlue, and Alaska Air, is concerned that the lack of working inspectors and regulators could compromise the safety of air travel in the US....

I'm not planning to. I have one trip by car south and another by AMTRAK, presuming 'DC' stays open. I wonder how many people might decide to delay, reschedule or CANCEL their plans. More MONEY out of the ECONOMY!

Hundreds of air traffic controllers, pilots and flight attendants rallied outside the Capitol on Thursday, urging an end to the federal government shutdown.

Union leaders representing the controllers and flight crews said the longer the standoff between President Trump and Congress continues, the more their concerns about possible threats to aviation safety increase as the controllers continue do their jobs without pay for nearly three weeks. As a sharp wind cut through the crowd, others raised concerns about a slowdown in maintenance and training.

“We want to make sure we have sufficient, competent air traffic controllers at all times,” Christopher Bacon, a first officer with American Airlines who also is a representative of the Allied Pilots Association. “The safety implications are obvious, unfortunately, if they’re worrying about a paycheck — if they have other things on their mind other than ensuring they’re giving absolute, top-notch control of the pilots.”

A separate protest drew hundreds of furloughed federal workers and contractors to the White House. On the lawn beside the Capitol, several speakers and audience members put the blame for the standoff on Trump, who walked out of talks with Democrats to end the shutdown. On Thursday, he traveled to the U.S.-Mexico border to make his case that a wall was necessary for border security. He also continued to blame Democrats for the shutdown.
