FDA says most food inspections halted amid shutdown

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says it has suspended all routine domestic food facility inspections amid the partial government shutdown.
The agency, which oversees the majority of the country's food supply, typically conducts roughly 160 routine inspections per week, the Post reported.
Investigators during these routine checks typically look for unclean conditions, bug infestations and harmful contaminations.
“We are doing what we can to mitigate any risk to consumers through the shutdown,” FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said.

That's got to be about 0.000000000001% of the food processing that occurs.160 routine inspections per week
Corporations police themselves, because if they don't they will be out of business and bankrupt. Capitalism works.
Thanks for proving that, albeit unknowingly. LOL
You dont build walls because you hate people outside. Its because you love people inside.
I am with the teabaggers and libertarians on this one -- the mere existence of food inspectors are a symptom of socialism - a warning shot across the bow of our relentless descent into a Kenyan-Marxist dystopian hell hole.
Everyone should be responsible for inspecting their own food, and buyer beware, It's really about personal responsibility, folks!
Most large food processing companies use third part food safety auditors. Government or not, they do not want to trigger either a mass casualty event or a recall. Recalls are very bad for marketshare and branding.
