    Default Women in the news

A woman upset that a handyman would not do extra work he was unauthorized to do allegedly struck the man with an object and shot him in the face and chest in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The shooting took place at a duplex on the 6200 block of Victoria Avenue around noon.

The handyman was authorized to do specific work by the building management, but the woman asked the handyman to do extra work that was not authorized, according to Lt. Ted Urena of the LAPD. When the handyman refused, the woman became upset and struck the handyman with an object, according to Urena.

Then, the woman went inside the home, came back with a handgun and shot the handyman in the face and chest, Urena said.

As the hunt continued for 21-year-old Krystal Whipple, who allegedly ran over a nail salon technician in a deadly encounter in Las Vegas, the suspect's mother spoke out, begging her daughter to turn herself in.

"You can't run, baby," Sharon Whipple told ABC News through tears, speaking to her daughter. "You cannot run. You have to come forward, baby."

Video of the violent incident appeared to show Krystal Whipple striking and killing 51-year-old "Annie" Ngoc Q. Nguyen with her Chevy Camaro. Whipple allegedly was trying to escape after her debit card was declined for her $35 manicure.

Witnesses said Whipple told salon employees she was going to her car to get cash. When Nguyen saw the young woman starting the car and driving away, she ran out to stop her. The beloved salon owner and mother of three ultimately was dragged about 50 feet and died of her injuries.

The Camaro later was found abandoned by a nearby housing complex and was identified as a rental that had been stolen a month earlier. Whipple previously had been charged with attempted possession of a stolen vehicle and served four months in jail for a probation violation.

Nguyen was said to be a pillar of the community who worked tirelessly to send her daughters to college and to support her extended family.

Authorities have arrested a woman they say bit a jogger at a San Francisco Bay Area park.

Nineteen-year-old Alma Cadwalader of Oakland was arrested Friday by police with the East Bay Regional Park District.

Authorities say Cadwalader’s dog tried to attack the jogger Thursday on a trail in Anthony Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley.

Cadwalader then confronted the jogger, tackling and punching her. When the jogger tried to push her away, police say Cadwalader bit the woman’s forearm, leaving “significant wounds.”

She was booked on suspicion of battery with serious bodily injury and false imprisonment with violence.

A woman now faces burglary charges after attempting to steal rent checks from an apartment complex.

Officers responded to a burglary call at the Greenbrook at Shelby Farms Apartments.

They were met by a security guard who said Mercedes Walker had attempted to open the after-hours deposit box, which is located on the side of the office.

Walker tried inserting a yellow cord with a mouse glue trap at the end into the deposit slot, in an attempt to retrieve checks and money orders.

She was about to leave when she realized she couldn't "catch" any checks, but then her ride left her.

An exotic dancer was arrested after writing about her "urges" to undertake a mass shooting in a crowded area, police said.

Brein Basarich, 31, who worked at the Showgirls Men’s Club, admitted to posting the threats on her Tumblr account under the username “taking-lives,” police said.

She wrote about her “vision” of using an assault rifle to fire into a crowded bar or club that only had one entrance, thus preventing people from escaping.
