Default Walls work. The "walls don't work" whine is definitively debunked

The Berlin Wall was a guarded concrete barrier that physically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. Constructed by the German Democratic Republic, starting on 13 August 1961, the Wall cut off West Berlin from virtually all of surrounding East Germany and East Berlin until government officials opened it in November 1989.

Before the Wall's erection, 3.5 million East Germans circumvented Eastern Bloc emigration restrictions and defected from the GDR, many by crossing over the border from East Berlin into West Berlin; from there they could then travel to West Germany and to other Western European countries. Between 1961 and 1989 the Wall prevented almost all such emigration.

You mean there is an example of a wall working?

JPP leftists say walls never work and they are never wrong.

They said we could never impact world oil supplies by domestic drilling any they were.......well wrong about that

They said that tax cuts would never increase revenues to the treasury and they were well.....wrong about that

They said that moving the US embassy to Jerusalem would cause the ME to erupt and they were well.......wrong about that too

    Forget what I said earlier

They seem desperate to deflect from the fact that the Berlin wall stopped nearly all border jumpers for 28 years, don't they?

The construction of the Berlin Wall did stop the flood of refugees from East to West, and it did defuse the crisis over Berlin. (Though he was not happy about it, President Kennedy conceded that “a wall is a hell of a lot better than a war.”) Over time, East German officials replaced the makeshift wall with one that was sturdier and more difficult to scale. A 12-foot-tall, 4-foot-wide mass of reinforced concrete was topped with an enormous pipe that made climbing over nearly impossible.Behind the wall on the East German side was a so-called “Death Strip”: a gauntlet of soft sand (to show footprints), floodlights, vicious dogs, trip-wire machine guns and patrolling soldiers with orders to shoot escapees on sight.
So even dead DEMOCRAT JFK admitted that walls work.

"One aspect of the wall debate more important than the cost is its worth. The migration expert Rosenblum said fencing in remote areas of the United States isn't likely to achieve the goal of a more secure border."It's not necessary to have a pedestrian fence in places where the infrastructure doesn't support people walking toward the border," Vitiello said in his May Senate testimony.

Trump's Department of Homeland Security chief, John Kelly, said in recent Senate testimony, a "physical barrier will not do the job." He went on to say it can be part of a strategy. "If you build a wall, you would still have to back that wall up with patrolling by human beings, by sensors, by observation devices."
Border walls work in densely populated areas — such as Israel's wall in the West Bank — where slowing down a person trying to illegally enter by five or 10 minutes can make a difference to border patrol. But when the migrant trying to enter is traveling over remote mountains and deserts for three days, using a fence to slow them down by a few minutes doesn't have the same effect — it borders on the trivial, Rosenblum said.

"There is a reason people don't build fences in the middle of nowhere; it doesn't change the enforcement profile in the middle of nowhere," the migration expert said. "The existing fence has worked because of where it is, near populated areas. Both Democrats and Republicans have testified that they have the fencing they need," Rosenblum said." https://www.cnbc.com/2015/10/09/this...d-cost-us.html

So you were told that by a few self-described "experts" voicing an opinion?

I am pretty sure being the head of the Department of Homeland Security requires being more than a "self-described expert."

Who told you that? It's a political appointment.

BTW, you must not have found the former Secretary's statement very convincing, since you appear to have discounted part of it.

Trump's Department of Homeland Security chief, John Kelly, said, a "physical barrier can be part of a strategy. "If you build a wall, you would still have to back that wall up with patrolling by human beings, by sensors, by observation devices."

Since we already deploy patrols by human beings, sensors, and observation devices, only one piece of the puzzle remains to be added.

I didn't discount any of it. You quoted him saying effectively what I have already said while ignoring the part about him saying "a "physical barrier will not do the job."

    Is that so?

If I'd said "physical barrier alone will do the job" you'd have a point. Since I didn't, you don't.

You ignored the part about backing that wall up with patrolling by human beings, by sensors, by observation devices, all of which are already in use.

What is the final component that's missing?
