Default Empty Russian "cargo" ship runs aground off the coast of Southern England....

    Empty "cargo" ship...

    Yeah, sure.

If it were any other country but Russia, there would be nothing to be suspicious of. But given their proclivity for spying and snooping, I would think that MI6 might take an interest in this incident.

Make sure there are no sensitive communications relay stations in the area, etc.

Monitor the ship for any unusual electronic signals that might be transmitted or received.

Establish if there was a legitimate reason why the ship was that close to the coastline.

That kind of mistrust is the price Putin must pay for being such a sleazy, meddling asshole.

Russian cargo ship runs aground off Cornwall coast

    https://www.bbc.com/news/amp/uk-engl...nwall-46602615

A 16,000-tonne Russian cargo ship ran aground off a beach in Cornwall.

The Kuzma Minin grounded off Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth at about 05:40 GMT.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) declared a major incident and said the 590ft (180m) ship had a list of about five degrees.

The massive vessel, which had 18 Russian crew members on board but no cargo, was refloated in a "tricky and delicate" operation at high tide.

Three harbour tugs and a lifeboat towed the ship off the beach just after 14:00.

Marc Thomas, senior coastal operations manager, said the coastguard had been forced to work "really hard to manoeuvre the vessels" during windy conditions.

Falmouth harbourmaster Mark Sansom described the weather conditions as "very poor".

The coastguard said there had been no reports of any pollution.

A helicopter team winched coastguard members on to the ship earlier in order to check up on the Kuzma Minin's crew.

Supt Matthew Longman from Devon and Cornwall Police warned members of the public to stay away from the beach where the ship ran aground.

"It is important to let the public know that there is no cargo on this ship," he said.

"We all remember the scenes when the Napoli ran aground in east Devon. I'm afraid there are no such spoils on the Kuzma Minin."

Such vessel can get several meters closer to shore by running aground.

    BUT !!

Is that tiny additional distance strategically significant? What gain could such vessel accomplish 950 meters from their spy target that it could not accomplish at 1,000 meters?

I hope the U.K. is clever enough to investigate; determine if there's an obvious cause for the grounding; engine failure for example.

If the engine is completely broken that doesn't prove it wasn't deliberate on Russia's part, as they could have broken it themselves.

And if all is "ship shape" that doesn't mean a drunken helmsman didn't run her aground in a stupor.

But either way we don't have enough information.

Count me a skeptic. If anything, I'd be inclined to suspect this incident was a diversion.

I really dont know much about cargo ships, but I know truck dirvers often cannot find a return load, or have to drive hundreds of miles to pick one up. Maybe ships are the same. But I dont see a tactical advantage to running aground.

I'm patient enough to wait a couple of news cycles, for the other shoe to drop.

This could be a case in which, assuming the Ruskies were up to no good, British intelligence might decide to play dumb and let them think they went undetected in hopes of monitoring future activity.

So therefore, even if they were spying, it might not ever make the news.

The ship grounding is ... obviously ... proof of Trump Russia Collusion.

It couldn't beee ... that the Captain had a little too much Vodka to drink.

Socialism is just the modern word for monarchy.

D.C. has become a Guild System with an hierarchy and line of accession much like the Royal Court or priestly classes.

Private citizens are perfectly able of doing a better job without "apprenticing".

I didn't want to bring this up earlier, but you mentioned 'Vodka', and I was just thinking, ... do you know if 'Sailor' sails under the Russian Flag? (I'd hate to see him lose his License over something like this)

Show me where I said anything remotely close to that, brainiac.
