Default Climate Denial On The Progressive Left

Interesting twitter post from an climate energy policy guy from Berkeley about progressives and the car culture. His follow up to this is the next post.

We've all seen these folks, they'll lecture others on climate change and the danger it possesses but don't want any of the remedy's to affect them.

Wait a minute, your man Matt is postulating a bit there, how does he know that all "progressives ....do not believe life without cars is possible?" And how can he generalize it on to everyone who believes man made climate change is real? I personally know areas as NY, Boston, and DC are full of people who don't even own a car, and if they did, it is more of a pain in the ass finding somewhere to park it.

I don't interpret him as saying all progressives. Did you read the article he linked to? The author's sentiments are shared by a number of people in Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco and the Bay Area, that's who Matt is referring to.

I did not read the article, but now that I have, it is even more confusing, Matt is going off in all different directions, as it applies to his tweet, it appears he is associating the city leaders working with the developers as the "progressive left," or, his colleagues who are mum on the city leaders working with the developers

Having been there, SF's mass transit isn't very good, nor is it local history museum, pet peeve of mine, pretty surprising for a city with such an iconic tradition.

The issue here is the NIMBYism and residents not allowing denser development near transit. Developers would love to build of course but are denied the opportunity to. The author of the piece took a very long time to state her NIMBY position but that's what it was.

You ask most people in Berkeley if they agree climate change is man made and they'll say yes. But any changes to their neighborhood to address it they fight against.

The Bay Area may not have the NYC subway system but transit is still enough to get around.

From my experience, one is better off walking, and you still have a lousy local history museum
