Trump praises closure of Weekly Standard: 'Rest in peace!'

President Trump on Saturday praised the shuttering of The Weekly Standard, a conservative magazine critical of him, one day after the publication announced that it would close and lay off staff.

“The pathetic and dishonest Weekly Standard
, run by failed prognosticator Bill Kristol (who, like many others, never had a clue), is flat broke and out of business. Too bad,” Trump tweeted. “May it rest in peace!”

The Weekly Standard was co-founded by Bill Kristol, one of Trump's most outspoken critics from the right, and Fred Barnes, a contributor on the Sunday political affairs program "The McLaughlin Group."

Kristol brushed off Trump's comments on Saturday, responding that the president should tag him in future tweets going after him...

I did not know that rag was still around.

The GOP is Trump's party now. And he is the perfectly expected consequence of what the party has been selling for decades.

What Bill Krstol, the Weekly Standard, WSJ never understood is that there was never a widespread constituency for deregulation of wall street banks, NAFTA style corporate trade, abolishment of minimum wage and Medicare, trickle down tax cuts for the rich, and the Austrian school of economics more generally.

You could metaphorically fit the people who are passionate about those issues in a phone booth.

The modern republican party is built on white resentment, xenophobia, and white nationalism. I think we all should have expected that somebody like Trump would define the modern Republican Party.

I think that in the backs of our minds, we all kind of expected the eventual emergence of a Trump-like character taking the helm of the Republican party and the far right.

    It was inevitable, really.

    The ascendance of ignorance.

The Weekly Standard did an excellent job speaking about conservative ideas for a long time. And sticking to its principles it did not support a lot of what Trump does and stands for and it's paying the economic price. It's unfortunate.

Most people support free trade and trade agreements because they understand economics and that it benefits the U.S. and well as our trade partners. Yes, there are individuals that do get hurt by free trade and we should do things to try and help them. But on the whole the country benefits from access to more and better goods at cheaper prices.

Even your own party has jumped onto the free trade train outside of Bernie and that's because Bernie does not understand economics.

Trump is such a childish, vindictive ass.

    Let's write a song..

Have yourself a very Mueller Christmas.....
