Sworn testimony is, by definition, a form of evidence. She offered it. And most Americans believed her. If that leads to her being rewarded in some way for her courage in coming forward, good. Certainly the rape apologists are going to try to destroy her for daring to speak out, so it's a good thing if there's some counter-balancing good coming into her life as a result of her heroism.

It's actually encouraging to see how these things tend to play out. When a woman has the audacity to say things that makes limp male wingnuts demand that she "STFU," it often starts a pile-on of personal abuse from the right (Anita Hill and Sandra Fluke being two other prominent examples). The hope of those dickless male conservatives is that if they call her a slut enough times (or maybe a "tranny-homo" if we're talking the stupider end of the conservative spectrum), they can damage the woman enough that future women will be intimidated and won't dare to speak up in such situations. But that terrorism tends to backfire. The sheer viciousness of the attackers causes all decent people to align behind the women, and they wind up in a much better position than if they'd just shown up, given their testimony in a respectful setting, and then moved back into obscurity. That in turn sets off endless whining among the impotent male conservatives about how these women became "rich celebs" -- and that whining, too, is a kind of reward.

Sure, it has inspired lots of crying jags among the troglodytes of the extreme right wing, who hate to see good things happen to good people. However, there aren't many of them, and they're already well-served by "news for imbeciles" sites like Breitbart, so there's no need to feed them in the reputable press.

I use paragraphs when they're warranted. However, since I was only presenting six mostly short sentences, breaking it down into two or more paragraphs wasn't necessary. That would have left me with three-sentence paragraphs, which is really at the low end of what is appropriate.

Have you considered looking up the word "screed"? You used it wrong. It refers to a longer speech or piece of writing. What I wrote was only 154 words. That's long by the standards of, say, a first-grader. However, at an adult reading speed, it's about thirty seconds worth of text. Nor is this "stream of consciousness" writing. It builds its argument in a linear and organized manner.
