Over a simiar period of time in other years, the illegal aliens entering the US hasn't changed. I'll even risk saying it's declined without first checking out the stats for proof. Trump's play on the problem is in my opinion nothing but a play for popularity by appealing to his evilminded base to hate the minority. Absolutely quite similar to a Hitler fascist tactic of turning the people against the Jews.

I offered as proof of that the fact that the border problem wasn't dealt with to any large degree by either party, but if in fact there was any action taken then it was minimal by Obama. The influx of illegal aliens did decrease.

That is my evidence to say that border security is being used by Trump to demonize Hispanics. And further proof is in the comments of the actual haters on this very forum.

For you to try to brush that off by saying: 'border security is not demonization', isn't facing reality.

I also do not think Trump is an aberration. I think he is the expected outcome of two decades of xenophobia, racial resentment, and authoritarianism pushed by the GOP, rightwing talk radio, and the broader wingnutosphere.

I mean, this is the political party that gave us Tricky Dick Nixon, George Dumbya Bush, Sarah Palin, and Donald J. Drumpf. How far away are we from the broader GOP embracing someone like David Duke?

The antidote, it seems to me, is to strengthen and re-invigorate our democracy. That means aggressively eliminating gerrymandering, getting rid of Citizen's United, punishing voter suppression, and simply making it as easy as reasonably possible for people to exercise their right to vote.

The GOP only understands punishment. In a functioning and fair democracy, they would have lost 80 seats in the House last month, rather than the 41 seat blue wave they had to endure.

In a functioning democracy, the authoritarian rightwing could potentially get crushed in election after election, until the GOP reforms itself into something resembling the more moderate party of Eisenhower we used to see decades ago.

IMO no amount of "reform" will be good enough. The entire party is based on racism, violence and greed. No amount of moderation of that will be acceptable.

We need a entirely new party completely void of racism, violence and greed.
