In some forests the understory is cool and moist.

They are dying out due to last century logging - most are only a hundred or so years old -they live to be 2000+

Here’s a good article that pre-dates the politicization of the current CA fires; from Mother Jones:

    https://www.motherjones.com/environm...iu4GikY68mfy-4

They spend so much energy trying to think their way out of the carbon problem [assuming it’s even a problem smh] they’ve been paralyzed. The most effective way to rid the forest of excess fuel is prescribed burning.

And they’ve fallen way behind—in a nutshell, poor forest management.

I was looking at one that said the fire that did damages were sagebrush and such that embers flew into Paradise.

I wish I would have saved the link but I read where native Indians in that part of CA were threatened by wildfires centuries ago. The winds are driven by a mechanism in the Pacific Ocean. That’s been going on for who knows how long.

What’s maddening is climate change isn’t required to understand it yet that’s been the prime focus of CA forest management.

Fire cleans out dead debris and brush. Large trees can withstand small fires that consume debris on the forest floor. Trouble starts when flames reach the canopy.

Over the last hundred years naturally occurring fires have been artificially suppressed in CA. In other words, it’s not a heat problem but a fuel problem. Put simply—there’s too much of it and coupled with the wind this time of year it becomes a ticking time bomb.

And anyone who thinks ‘changing the climate’ will help matters has no business mocking Trump for his leaf raking comments because Trump at least has the book open on the right page.
Again, go back through thread and find any of my posts that mentions climate change.

Fuel is no problem if it’s wet all the time. Combine that with extreme HEAT in CA and you have a problem.

Of course fires are natural and they’ve suppressed them recently. That’s because PEOPLE are now living there. Derp!

People are mocking Trump on the raking because it was another one of his fucking lies.

Trump hasn’t even opened the book.

^The definition of irony; a moron claiming everyone else is one.
