    Default We control the house.

Things feel better already. Trump is acting like less of a bullying asshole. Bipartisan measure on prisons and sentencing.

The more power we take back the better everything will be, until finally the Trump nightmare is totally erased.

    Can you feel the goodness?

He'll go round insulting his colonials instead of Americans. It is not causing friendly feeling amongst us European serfs.

For starters, there will be more flexibility when it comes to so-called mandatory sentences. In a nation like ours, with incarceration rates rivaling those of brutal autocracies, that's no small thing.

They're trying to get the prison reform signed before democrats take over. And the ultimate irony of ironies Donald Trump is going to sign legislation to reform Bill Clinton's crime bill to lesson jail time that Clinton's crime bill disproportionately affected young black males

Donald Trump never imagined he could lose the house of representatives, he never thought there would be honest oversight, now he’s freaking out.

STFU that was a republican led crime bill.

Sure bill sold out, but make no mistake.....it was racist white men who produced that bill.

Is that it? I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but there are other things that need much more attention. Changing a life sentence on the 3rd strike to 25 years is still going to produce a hardened, bad dude who is going to be reintroduced into society. Trump and the house are diametrically opposed to each other. The dems hate him, and vice versa. I really don’t see much for them to work together on. I hope I am wrong

It's a start. The problem is that with one house in the control of Democrats (a big chunk of whom are very liberal and got elected specifically on the basis of a progressive rejection of centrism), and the other in control of Republicans (most of whom are deathly afraid of being primaried if they deviate from far-right orthodoxy), there aren't a whole lot of things that can pass both houses of Congress, much less get by a veto. Basically, people need to look at the kinds of "good governance" reforms that haven't been highly politicized, such that seeking common ground won't be politically poisonous for either side. In this era, where practically everything is highly politicized, there aren't a huge number of options on that list.

Changing a life sentence on the 3rd strike to 25 years is still going to produce a hardened, bad dude who is going to be reintroduced into society.
There are more examples than just the third-strikes. For example, consider the case of Alice Marie Johnson, whom Trump commuted the sentence of. She had a life sentence for a first-time non-violent offense. Unfortunately, most people in similar situations don't have the benefit of having a reality TV star like Kim Kardashian personally lobbying their fellow reality TV personality for mercy, so more systematic change is needed.

Well, most of us surely HOPED we wouldn’t lose it, but history’s shadow loomed large. And he’s not freaking out, he’s ordering veto pens by the truck load and thinking of ways to provide the same level of cooperation that you guys gave us during the GOP’s time of “oversite”
