Doesn't change that they don't count the $30K worth of government benefits they receive as income. Rent an apartment and you are not poor because your housing obligations are not "debt" but if you buy a house you go from not poor to one of the poorest in the world when you sign the mortgage if debt is your metric. 16% of the world has no freaking electricity. Half the world has no meaningful access to healthcare. Your Keeping Up with the Kardashians view of income inequality is myopic at best. It is better to be poor here than it is on most of the planet's square footage. The standard of living for the poor in the US steadily improves while people living in grass huts, and shanties made from trash still live in grass huts and shanties made from trash.

America's anchor babies are not the drain.. Its regular impoverished US citizens plus the cost of wars and things like Trump's new 12 billion in farm subsidies since he screwed the soybean farmers.
