Data shows 16% of Americans live in poverty. Poverty level for a family of 4 is $25,100.
    Median household income is $59,039.
Personal debt has been a problem for decades. People spend more than they have. Personal savings has been a problem for decades. People don’t save enough for retirement.

I’m not sure how the article calculated the data.
Making $60,000 a year (without extravagant spending) I can live comfortably in a middle class neighborhood in many places in the United States.
However making $60,000 I’m in proverty if I have to live in New York City, Boston or San Francisco.

People have to start living within their means and start saving.
A lot of the personal debt is self inflicted.

Your predatory economic system would collapse on itself, and it knows it. We must now blame the people on the bottom so as to direct inquiry away from the system itself. It's that fragile.

According to the Credit Suisse 2018 Global Wealth Databook, 34 million American adults are among the WORLD’S POOREST 10%. How is that possible? In a word, debt. In more excruciating words: stifling, misery-inducing, deadly amounts of debt for the poorest Americans. And it goes beyond dollars to the “deaths of despair” caused by the stresses of inferior health care coverage, stagnating incomes, and out-of-control inequality.

Numerous sources report on the rising debt for the poor half of America, especially for the lowest income group, and largely because of health care and education costs. Since 2008 consumer debt has risen almost 50 percent. The percentage of families with more debt than savings is higher now than at any time since 1962.

It could be argued that Scandinavian countries face the same degrees of debt as Americans. But far less of the debt is for health and education costs. And the Scandinavian safety net is renowned for its generous provisions for all citizens.

This has to be one of the dumbest things ever written.

Try going to third world countries and then compare our 'poor' to theirs. It isn't even close. Our 'poor' would still be 'rich' to them.

Try going back to 1973 and track the redistribution of societal wealth in american society.

Then make a decision. If we're "exceptional" then we should live up to that. Or stfu about it.

There was a Wisconsin study that found a single parent working part time and attending technical college full time raising two children received $41,292 in public assistance tax and student financial aid benefits.

Healthcare for the poor. It’s called Medicaid.

Take a trip to your nearest hospital emergency room. A large number of patients waiting to see a doctor don’t have emergencies. Because it’s taxpayer dollars the patients are there for minor alignments that can to treated at home or at clinics.
Those of us with employer funded healthcare with deductibles are not going to hospital emergency rooms for minor alignments.

A study found a potential 4.4 billion in annual savings if non-urgent emergency room visits were eliminated.

No moron, you should stfu... having seen actual third world living, there is no fucking comparison. None. Our poorest are nowhere near being in the bottom 10%. Try going to villages in Africa where they are still living in mud huts. Or perhaps to India, China and other Asian countries where the living conditions of their poor are horrid.

Saying 1 in 7 Americans are among the poorest 10% is not only an insult to the actual poor in the world, it is truly fucking moronic.

Default Trump Quietly Scales Back Assistance Programs For Poor Americans

In a move that was barely noticed due to the increasing number of distractions with this presidency, Donald Trump signed an executive order last week that requires several government departments to implement work requirements for people seeking federal assistance. Departments like HUD, Health and Human Services, and Agriculture will now force people to get a job or be kicked out of federal housing, lose their farm subsidies, or lose Medicaid and food stamps. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses the Trump administration’s war on the poor.

Our healthcare system and its costs drive the poor to Emergency rooms.. Most employers don't provide healthcare benefits these days.

If you have healthcare insurance thru your employer YOU are paying for the poor, indigent, elderly and million dollar premature babies thru cost shifting and have been doing so for 30 years.

See corporate welfare, how much did we just let Bezos skip out on paying?

Sure, a single mother is the problem. Would you like to say "welfare queen"?

Don't forget more bankster deregulation when they ask for socialism to bail themselves out again.
