I did not install the real solar system mod though... this would be hard to scale up to Earth size even in KSP.

Crap I didn't realize that they needed it at cryogenic temperatures! Yeah that makes things a ton harder. They're basically trying to make an airbreathing engine with rocket type parameters.

It's hard to believe that they cracked the problem, it must have seemed impossible at the outset.
