Default Democrats now should immediately confront the federal minimum wage rate.

Democrats regained the congressional House. Now they should immediately confront the federal minimum wage rate issue.

I’m among those that advocate a minimum wage rate gradually increased to higher purchasing power and thereafter monitored and (when necessary to retain its targeted purchasing power), it should be updated prior to New Year’s date of the following year. In my opinion, annual increases of 12% until the rate achieves 125% of its February 1968 purchasing power is reasonable.

It would be possible, but politically problematic for the Republican majority U.S. Senate not to pass an alternative bill responding to the Democratic House’s bill. Usually, there are differences between bills that may, (or may not) be reconciled by negotiators from each chamber. A bill sent to the president for his consideration must be passed by both houses with exactly the same drafted language. That usually requires both chambers to again vote and pass a draft of the bill that’s a mutually agreed upon update.

    Possible House’s negotiating positions:

The Senate will be displeased by the concept of pegging the rate’s purchasing power.
The House’s alternative position could be, lose the purchasing power provision but give us 15% annual increase for 10 years.

The Senate may then find the purchasing power concept less objectionable but they're then displeased with the 12%.
The House’s alternative position could be, 8% increase every Labor Day until the rate achieves 125% of its February 1968 purchasing power, but the rate’s additionally annually updates reflecting changes in the CPI-U will begin prior to the New Year’s day following the enactment day of the Bill.

I hope the Democratic negotiators would be polite and respectful beyond civility, but FIRM! they should not acquiesce or attempt to placate to the opposition. Democrats should be fully prepared to leave the negotiating table and permit the differences to be resolved by the 2020 general elections.

    Respectfully, Supposn

lets remember that the republicans voted against their OWN legislation (they wrote it and sponsored it ) when Obama came into office and said he would sign those laws.

they will not do anything the house suggests while its in Democratic hands

I laugh at democrats what scream for government imposed wage hikes yet support low wage workers flooding our borders driving down wages.

Evince, I concur with your prediction of Republican responses. If the Democrats next year negotiate sincerely and firmly, it will all consequentially be to their greater advantage in 2020.
If Democrats acquiesce (as they so often have done before), they’ll again fail their party and our nation. In that case, certainly our nation will suffer and it’s even conceivable that Trump could be re-elected.

The Reds hold the senate and executive,. that is why states are ballot proposing minimum wage. I believe 3 more states voted for it. Since it passes in just about every election, don't you think the people are sending a message to the plutocrats? Our wealth distribution is worse than the gilded age and Trump made it worse. The people are learning.

state houses are a very big deal in these days especially

we will work in the states to craft a better nation while the Democratic house gives us oversite of these criminals

Then we will turn the house and the presidency.

    then we will impeach Kavanaugh

he provably lied in his nomination

This could actually be a winning issue for them if they sell it the right way but I doubt they will, they'll have to embrace cutting or outright eliminating a host of social programs in order for this to make sense.

Oh Bernie has already pledged to introduce the $15 MW bill on Day 1. Won't happen and the dems won't shut the government down over it.

Why do they have to shut down the government to make legislation? They are not like trump. We have had lots and lots of laws passed or stopped without shutting down the government,
However the states are raising the minimum wage. They are doing it without shutting down the state. http://www.ncsl.org/research/labor-a...age-chart.aspx

Because there is no way the Senate would pass the law and Trump would sign it. I doubt they could even get it through the House. The vast majority of the states in your article come no where close to the $15 MW Bernie plans to introduce.
