It's hard to find gun legislation that works equally well in Butte and Manhattan.
I've never been a big 10th Amendment / States Rights guy as few progressive liberals are.
Certain things like civil liberties must be enforced by strong central national authority.
But universal firearms legislation might be culturally a step too far.
Guns are inanimate objects that many Americans like to have,
some for sane and some for insane reasons.
At a time of horses and swords, we were the first major nation founded with guns.
Discussion on the subject is appropriate if realistic expectations are applied.

Mandatory background check for one. Making "bump stocks" illegal for another instead of allowing the NRA to sell them. Most of those 20,000 laws are only for specific areas, and do not apply to all areas. Then you have areas like Florida with its phony ass "stand your ground" laws. In this case the prosecuting attorney says the law does not apply:

Get a copy of their American Rifleman, and see how many of those items they advertise for.
Love the consistent ignorance of the right wing, and how proudly they display it. Laws that are passed here in Oregon do not apply to Washington, or laws passed in California do not apply to Nevada.
