    Reducing SS has nothing to do with raising or lowering the deficit.

    The deficit is simple. Spend more than you bring in and you're running a deficit. There is no one item responsible for that.

    True but I assumed we're talking about what McConnell said about entitlements. You can't pick out one item on the budget and say "that's it! That's the problem".

    There was NO SURPLUS. Every year since Ike we have run ACTUAL deficits. BUDGET numbers are just that... BUDGETS. If you don't stick to the budget then the ACTUAL DATA shows the deficit or surplus.

    No the hovt does not pay taxes so no revenue gained there.
    And the money is not distributed it just goes into the general fund to pay the bills.
