The U.S. is back on top as the most competitive country in the world, regaining the No. 1 spot for the first time since 2008 in an index produced by the World Economic Forum, which said the country could still do better on social issues.

In many third world countries, women are confined, often forcibly, to domestic work. Married women, despite being educated, are forced to do domestic work. This situation holds true in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, and even some parts of North and South America. The women's domestic work is not accounted for in GDP calculations in these countries. Imagine if their immense economic contribution(s) were to be recognized. These countries might climb up the ladder, too. But what good is this ladder, really? It is just a mark of one-dimensional, inaccurate, and exclusionary economics.
