Glenn Simpson, co-founder of the Fusion GPS opposition research firm that compiled a salacious anti-Trump dossier, has invoked his Fifth Amendment right not to testify before a House committee investigating the Justice Department‘s actions during the 2016 presidential election.

Simpson is one of several key players in the dossier drama scheduled to testify on Capitol Hill. James Baker, the FBI’s former top lawyer, is scheduled to appear on Thursday and Nellie Ohr is set for Friday.

The dossier, authored by former British spy Christopher Steele, was funded by the DEMOCRAT National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. It is full of salacious, unverified allegations about Trump’s alleged ties to Russia.

The so-called Steele dossier was used to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act application to spy on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Republican lawmakers have pointed to the fact Nellie Ohr worked for Fusion GPS during the 2016 election as evidence that the Obama-era Justice Department was politically motivated to smear the Tump campaign.

A U.S. Treasury employee has been arrested on charges she leaked multiple reports to left-leaning BuzzFeed News, law-enforcement officials said.

The secret documents were related to Paul Manafort, Richard Gates, accused Russian agent Maria Butina, and the Russian Embassy in Washington.

Natalie Mayflower Sours Edwards, a 40-year-old senior advisor in Treasury's financial crimes enforcement network, will face federal criminal charges in New York, officials said.

Edwards, who was arrested Tuesday, is due to appear before a judge in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia later today.

She is charged in a criminal complaint with unlawfully disclosing SARS, and conspiracy to do the same. Both counts carry a sentence of five years in prison.

The criminal complaint against Edwards says that she started leaking "numerous" so-called suspicious activity reports, known as SARS, in October 2017 to an unidentified reporter, and continued doing so until this month.

She had "hundreds of electronic communications" with the reporter, "many via an encrypted application," the complaint said.

After Edwards began leaking SARS, the journalist then wrote about a dozen articles which mentioned the details of those reports, according to the complaint.

Articles cited in the complaint carry the bylines of Jason Leopold and Anthony Cormier, two reporters at BuzzFeed, among other journalists at the media outlet.

The articles cited documents transactions pertaining to Manafort and Gates, both of whom have since pleaded guilty to financial crimes related to their consulting work in Ukraine in 2012.

At the time of her arrest, according to federal prosecutors in Manhattan, she "was in possession of a flash drive" that appeared to be the same device "on which she saved the unlawfully disclosed SARs."

Also in her possession was "a cellphone containing numerous communications over an encrypted application in which she transmitted SARs and other sensitive government information to" the reporter.

"When questioned by law enforcement officials, Edwards confessed she has provided SARs to via an encrypted application, through falsely denied knowing that the reporter intended to or did publish that information" through a news organization, the complaint said.

Treasury's financial crimes enforcement network, for which Edwards works, manages the collection of SARS.

Willful disclosure of a SAR or its contents by government employees outside of the scope of their work is a felony.

45 pages of FBI documents that reveal a “significant number” of 340,000 emails on the laptop of disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner were between former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her top aide Huma Abedin.

Documents also include a September 29, 2016, FBI report indicating that after agents served unidentified persons with a grand jury subpoena. “Discussions immediately ensued between the US Attorneys’ Offices in the Southern District of New York (SDNY) and [redacted], as well as the Department of Justice in Washington, DC.”

Only 3,077 of the emails found on the Weiner laptop “were directly reviewed for classified or incriminating information. Three FBI officials completed that work in a single 12-hour spurt the day before Comey again cleared Clinton of criminal charges.fired FBI official Peter Strzok created the initial draft of the October 2016 letter then-FBI director James Comey sent to Congress notifying lawmakers of the discovery of Hillary Clinton emails on Weiner’s laptop.

The notification to Congress, according the DOJ IG, came a full month after the emails were discovered by the FBI on Weiner’s laptop. The delay, the IG suggests, may have been the result of anti-Trump bias by FBI official Peter Strzok and others:

In September 2016, the FBI’s New York Field Office (NYO) and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) began investigating former Congressman Anthony Weiner for his online relationship with a minor. A federal search warrant was obtained on September 26, 2016, for Weiner’s iPhone, iPad, and laptop computer.

The FBI obtained these devices the same day.

The Weiner case agent told the OIG that he began processing Weiner’s devices on September 26, and that he noticed “within hours” that there were “over 300,000 emails on the laptop.”

No one associated with the Midyear investigation, including the entire leadership team at FBI Headquarters, took any action on the Weiner laptop issue until the week of October 24, and then did so only after SDNY raised concerns about the lack of action.

These new documents show the FBI knowingly sat on the Clinton emails for over a month before notifying Congress.
