"why the right is so desperate to seat Kav."
By "right", perhaps you mean Republicans.
But the desperation is palpable. Understandably so. Those that wish to understand why need to understand the following:
a) Republicans are not political conservatives. They pretend to be, for prestige. But in so doing Republicans falsely burnish their own reputation, while correspondingly degrading the reputation of genuine political conservatives.
b) One of the claims Republicans pretend to, that they have not earned and do not deserve is preferring smaller, more efficient, less intrusive, less authoritarian government. It is a gargantuan lie.
Republicans may talk a great game about it. But when they find an issue which meets with their disfavor, whether it be same sex marriage, or free trade (even at the local bakery), or a woman's reproductive rights, self-proclaimed small government Republicans suddenly become fans of big government authoritarians.
This is hypocrisy on an epic scale.
c) Saint Thomas More said a drowning man will clutch at a straw.
Authoritarian Republicans are desperate, frantic to overturn Roe v. Wade. McConnell's minions have clearly abandoned their statutory options, and plan to reverse Roe by packing the courts with Republican sycophants.
It's likely to bite them in the end. Remember how eager they were to seat Chief Justice Roberts? How'd that work out? Can you say: "Obamacare"? Yes. I knew you could.
"It should be obvious to anyone why conservatives and libertarians should be against Trump. He has no grounding in belief. No core philosophy. No morals. No loyalty. No curiosity. No empathy and no understanding. He demands personal loyalty and not loyalty to the nation. His only core belief is in his own superiority to everyone else. His only want is exercise more and more personal power." smb / purveyor of fact 18/03/18
