I can't speak for the black community but I can speak to my experiences. I was coming up during the height of the Cosby Show and I know many of my black classmates/friends loved the show because it was the first time a black family had been portrayed on TV that was non poor.

Now I can't speak to how those same people might view Cosby himself today. But I do know their reactions at the time.

Cosby was the epitome of 'I Got Mine, The Hell With You.'

And the strange things was he didn't have to do this!

Big star like that probably had gorgeous women coming on to him all the time.

    Totally mental.

    Sick.

That of which Cosby was accused and convicted was obscene behavior.

    Here's my problem.

    I've served on juries.

And in each case, a significant number of the jurors weren't mentally capable to serve as jurors.
They were either stupid, crazy, or just assholes.

Twice I had to hang juries to cause mistrials in the hope that if the case ended up being re-tried, the principals would get a more competent jury.

I don't know the answer to this problem.
The principals are entitled to a jury of their peers, but unless they're total buffoons, they're not going to get one.
Anybody without too much time on his/her hands knows how to get out of jury duty.
I always did when it wasn't convenient for me.

So most of the people left are too stupid to get out of it.

It's almost impossible to get a competent jury, and when you're lucky enough to get one,
you could still get a dipshit judge--especially in the moronic states that elect judges.

Bottom line: all of these high profile cases get adjudicated, and when it's over, we don't have a fucking clue whether justice was done or not.
And those who don't care are lower than whale shit.

I've sat on a few juries myself.

It does get interesting in deliberations.

But in the end, you either get a decision or it goes to retrial.

There is no way for justice to be perfect but it is the best we can do.

And I can't think of any way to improve it.

It doesn't always go to retrial, but if often does.
The way to improve it is to get serious about public education.
I shouldn't have had to want to go around the table strangling people.

If you're trying to teach creationism, you're not being serious.

Our education system is an absolute disgrace, and until K-16 is mandatory,
with 13-16 being either university or solid vocational training,
    we're fucked.

But K-12 has to get more serious, too.
Listen to a cracker Trumpanzee, and you know that person didn't learn jack shit academically.

We either pony up to educate our people,
or we continue swirling down the drain of history's toilet.

There are many people working to change the failed status quo of our education system. Hopefully you are willing to join them.

Well, (tapping finger on desk) Sanford (This is the Big One, Elizabeth) was poor I guess, but The Jeffersons "Moved uptown", so I don't know if your statement is true or not.

Yes, there are many troubling things in this world.
But it is not all bleak.
Many have wonderful lives despite the despair and threats.
To give up on humanity is to lose the fight.
We've simply got to find a way to work with what we've got and improve the situation bit by bit, wherever possible.
I would totally agree on education.

So many of our problems would be far less daunting with greatly improved education.

We can't very well go into the 2020's with the education system of 1990.

It hasn't been working very well for us recently.
