We've been over why local PD can't do the job. There's no penalty for lying to them. It's not a felony and is rarely prosecuted.

So you need the FBI to investigate because lying to the FBI is a felony and carries mandatory prison time. Lying to local PD doesn't.

So they posture. But no one believes they really want an investigation. They want to rush a hearing without one. So what will happen is that it will end up as a "he said"/"she said", no conclusions will be able to be drawn, and everyone will be left wondering what the point of the hearing was.

There exists no standard by which this Conservative is making this claim; and in fact, past precedent shows that an investigation into this is wholly within the FBI's wheelhouse, as Senator Orrin Hatch said back in 1991.

Show the precedent that is about an accusation against a SC nominee, without any evidence, is "wholly within the FBI's wheelhouse".
