    Default Why isn’t Florence stronger?

I followed Florence on my app since it was a tropical storm off west Africa.

It built up to a Cat 4 near Bermuda and was predicted to maintain that category once it reached the 84 degree water off the Carolinas. But it dropped down to a Cat 2 instead. It’s still a hurricane and presents a severe threat to affected areas, but apart from the fact it’s basically stalled, it’s not particularly remarkable—for a hurricane.

And hurricanes were happening way long before fossil fuels came into use.

    What gives?

Actually, it ran into warmer water near the coast and should have at least maintained Cat 4 lol. According to predictions.

Even hurricane forecasters get thrown curveballs by nature. You’d think climatologists would be a tad more circumspect in their predictions.

Mostly true, yes. However, local weather events -- and local includes a storm spanning hundreds of miles -- are subject to a myriad of factors that are still not well studied. We have written historical records of tropical storms in the Americas but they do not date back more than a couple of hundred years, and only include things like wind speed, wave height, and barometic pressure, as far as scientific readings go. We have a huge amount of weather science still to go.

Even hurricane forecasters get thrown curveballs by nature. You’d think climatologists would be a tad more circumspect in their predictions.
Forecasters predict events soon to happen. Climatologists attempt to pretend future trends, rather than events.

For myself, I'm glad that the hysteria over Florence has -- so far -- been overblown. I am unhappy that it was overblown because in the future, ppl in harms way will be even more disinclined to listen to warnings and take shelter.

When Flo was below Bermuda last Tuesday she was still getting a "push" from a system just to her NE. That push was forcing a much faster and concentrated spin above her, sort of feeding her intensity. When I bring up my ICON tracker and look at last Wednesday, she was coming out from under it and on her own, for lack of a better description. There were no other influences around her. She began to spread out wider, move slower and become less intense (kind of like old age ). She coasted in to shore slower and has been taking her darn time moving along there on the coast.
Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
    pain in abortion.

Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

Didn't you hear? Pat Robertson shooed the nasty storm back. It kept coming, but it was obviously weakened. No pastor takes credit for such things. Big reason all these televangelists are as real as a dragon, eating fat free chocolate cake
